Aaron and Katie

Aaron Bichard and Katie Harris are Cowichan Zero Heroes. They run Cowichan Recyclists, a pedal-powered company that collects recyclables and food scraps from close to 100 customers in Duncan and neighbouring communities.

They started their operation in 2007 to fill a gap in recycling services to small businesses, and they goes the extra mile (literally) to help their clients recycle everything possible. Katie and Aaron do this to make sure that nothing goes into the garbage that still has value.

All the materials collected by Cowichan Recyclists are processed at local public and private recycling and composting facilities, where they are used to make new products and soil.

For Aaron and Katie, the idea of burying garbage in landfills for future generations to deal with is absolutely the wrong approach. Instead, they wants people to take full responsibility for the waste they create today. For us, Katie and Aaron are Zero Heroes.
